Homemade Lavender Lotion Bars

DIY Home Lavender Lotion Bars made with Young Living Lavender essential oil

Lotion bars are great for applying lotion without the mess. You can carry them around in a tin, container or bag (great for airplane travel). Lotion bars are solid at room temperature, but when rubbed on the skin or held in your hand, the heat from your body will melt the lotion onto your skin - similar to applying lip balm to your lips. You can make fun shapes and different sizes.

You will need:

DIY Home Lavender Lotion Bars made with Young Living Lavender essential oil

  • 1/2 cup Sweet Almond Oil {Amazon link}
  • 1/2 cup Unrefined Ivory Shea Butter {Amazon link}
  • 1/2 cup organic white beeswax pellets {Amazon link}
  • 6-8 drops vitamin E oil - optional {Amazon link}
  • 20 drops Young Living Lavender essential oil
  • Silicone 24-Cavity Daisy Pan {Amazon link} or mold of choice
  • Double Boiler or saucepan {Amazon link}

Instructions

In a saucepan or a double boiler, heat the shea butter, beeswax, almond oil and vitamin E oil (optional) on low to low-medium until all the items are melted. Stir constantly as they melt. Once everything is melted, remove from heat and add your essential oil and stir. You can play around with the recipe and find how many drops work for you. If you don't want almond oil, you can use any carrier oil you'd like such as grapeseed {Amazon link}, fractionated coconut oil {Amazon link}, jojoba {Amazon link}, etc. Or you can mix a few different carrier oils together to equal 1/2 cup of oil.

Fill your mold cavities with the liquid. This recipe will make about 14 lotion bars with a little left over if using the Wilton Daisy Pan {Amazon link}. If you don't have any silicone molds available, you can use silicone cupcake baking cups {Amazon link}.

Let the lotion bars cool for a few hours and then pop each one out of the mold. Package them in little bags or tins. Perfect for friends, gifts, party favors, giveaways, etc.

Gentle Lavender Makeup Remover

Gentle Lavender Makeup Remover made with Young Living essential oils

For all my life, I've used toxic makeup remover. But thanks to some simple ingredients from around the house, the toxic remover is no more! This makeup remover is gentle and nourshing. You can use your carrier oil of choice. And did I mention CHEAP! This gentle makeup remover cost hardly anything to whip up.

You will need:

Instructions

Fill bottle 1/3 full with water, 1/3 with carrier oil of choice and 1/3 with witch hazel. Add 1 drop of Young Living lavender essential oil per ounce of makeup remover and shake well. I like the little 1 oz bottles because I like to make small fresh batches of homemade products, but the 4 oz would work just as well.

To use: Shake well before using. Moisten cotton ball or cotton round {Amazon link} with makeup remover. Wipe on closed eyelids with moisten cotton ball or makeup pad and swipe over closed eyelids.

If you have not figured out the beauty of castile soap, hopefully you soon will. It comes in a bar or liquid format and you can use it for everything from shampoos, to body wash, to face wash, to hand soap... you get the point. Feel free to find what essential oil combo works best for your hair. A quick search of Google will probably guide you to which essential oils are best for certain hair types.

DIY Relaxing Lavender Bath Salts

Homemade Chocolate Mint Sugar Scrub made with Young Living essential oils

This has to be the easiest and the fastest (yet nicest) gift to make and give! Use a mason jar or any jar you have or find. The dollar store is a good place to look! This gift would pair nicely with a bottle of the essential oil used to scent it, bath scrubs or foot soak. Maybe throw in some bath bombs into a gift basket and you are done!

Here are some other scent suggestions:
Uplifting: Peppermint, Citrus Fresh
Relaxing: Lavender, Roman Chamomile
Stress reliever: Stress-Away
Stress Away and Orange is like Creamsicle!!!

You will need:

Instructions

The recipe is very simple. Fill half your jar with Epson salt. Then fill 1/4 of the jar with sea salt and the other 1/4 with baking soda. Mix in the desired amount of your favorite Young Living essential oil and mix well. I use about 5 drops of Lavender essential oil for every 4 ounces of bath salts made.

Fun idea - Peppermint bath salts: In a jar, layer pink Himalayan salt {Amazon link} with the recipe above, scented with peppermint. It will look like a candy cane!

Homemade Cocoa & Shea Whipped Body Butter

Homemade DIY Whipped Body Butter made with Young Living essential oils

This was my first crack at whipped body butter and whew, what have I been missing. I do see why it is called “butter”. After it sets out, it has a consistency like butter, which is rather weird at first, but super cool and moisturizing.

You will need:

DIY Whipped Body Butter with Essential Oils

Instructions

1. Place coconut oil, cocoa butter, and shea butter in a glass mixing bowl and microwave on high. Keep checking and stir to combine until it melts completely.

2. Thoroughly mix in the sweet almond, vitamin E and essential oil(s). For this batch, I used 6 drops each of Myrhh, Lavender, Frankincense, & Sandalwood. Add more of less depending on your preferences.

3. Chill in your refrigerator for an hour or two. You want the mixture to firm up without getting too hard.

4. Once chilled, use a stand mixer or hand mixer to mix until you get a decadent whipped consistency. Scoop into a jar or container. As long as you are using quality oils this homemade lotion should last for 6 – 12 months at room temperature. If your home is extra toasty it may melt but you can re-chill and whip it up again with no problem.

NOTE: This recipe makes more than what is shown in the little 4oz jar. It makes about 2 cups.
