This was my first crack at whipped body butter and whew, what have I been missing. I do see why it is called “butter”. After it sets out, it has a consistency like butter, which is rather weird at first, but super cool and moisturizing.
You will need:
- 1/2 cup coconut oil {Amazon link}
- 1/2 cup raw cocoa butter {Amazon link}
- 1/2 cup shea butter {Amazon link}
- 1/2 cup sweet almond oil (you can use any carrier oil you want, like grapeseed or jojoba oil) {Amazon link}
- 1 tsp Vitamin E oil {Amazon link}
- Young Living essential oil(s) of choice
- Glass jar - like this {Amazon link} or this {Amazon link}
- Large glass mixing bowl {Amazon link}
Instructions
1. Place coconut oil, cocoa butter, and shea butter in a glass mixing bowl and microwave on high. Keep checking and stir to combine until it melts completely.
2. Thoroughly mix in the sweet almond, vitamin E and essential oil(s). For this batch, I used 6 drops each of Myrhh, Lavender, Frankincense, & Sandalwood. Add more of less depending on your preferences.
3. Chill in your refrigerator for an hour or two. You want the mixture to firm up without getting too hard.
4. Once chilled, use a stand mixer or hand mixer to mix until you get a decadent whipped consistency. Scoop into a jar or container. As long as you are using quality oils this homemade lotion should last for 6 – 12 months at room temperature. If your home is extra toasty it may melt but you can re-chill and whip it up again with no problem.
NOTE: This recipe makes more than what is shown in the little 4oz jar. It makes about 2 cups.
