DIY Relaxing Lavender Bath Salts

Homemade Chocolate Mint Sugar Scrub made with Young Living essential oils

This has to be the easiest and the fastest (yet nicest) gift to make and give! Use a mason jar or any jar you have or find. The dollar store is a good place to look! This gift would pair nicely with a bottle of the essential oil used to scent it, bath scrubs or foot soak. Maybe throw in some bath bombs into a gift basket and you are done!

Here are some other scent suggestions:
Uplifting: Peppermint, Citrus Fresh
Relaxing: Lavender, Roman Chamomile
Stress reliever: Stress-Away
Stress Away and Orange is like Creamsicle!!!

You will need:

Instructions

The recipe is very simple. Fill half your jar with Epson salt. Then fill 1/4 of the jar with sea salt and the other 1/4 with baking soda. Mix in the desired amount of your favorite Young Living essential oil and mix well. I use about 5 drops of Lavender essential oil for every 4 ounces of bath salts made.

Fun idea - Peppermint bath salts: In a jar, layer pink Himalayan salt {Amazon link} with the recipe above, scented with peppermint. It will look like a candy cane!

DIY Cocoa-Mint Lip Balm

DIY Cocoa-Mint Lip Balm

This is my new favorite recipe! I’ve been making regular lip balm for years, and I love it, but this is a very different one. The cocoa butter gives it a chocolate smell and a super smooth feel.

You will need:

DIY Cocoa-Mint Lip Balm with Essential Oils

Instructions

Chop the cocoa butter into small pieces. In a saucepan or a double boiler, heat the beeswax, almond oil and vitamin E oil on low to low-medium until the beeswax is mostly melted. Add the cocoa butter and continue to heat until all the items are melted. Stir constantly as they melt. Once everything is melted, remove from heat and add your essential oil and stir. You can play around with the recipe and find how many drops work for you.

Using the pipette (like a turkey baster), fill each of the lip balm tubes to the very top. This recipe will make about approximately 14 - 16 lip balms. Let the lip balms sit out and cool for a few hours until they are harden. Then place the caps on the tubes. This recipe is super easy and these make great gifts, party favors, giveaways, etc. If you don’t like almond oil, you can use any carrier oil you’d like such as grapeseed, jojoba, etc. Just be aware of the smell of the carrier oil can affect the overall smell of your cocoa-mint recipe.

This recipe is perfect for lip balm tubes. If you’d like to make them in lip balm containers (the ones where you use your finger to dip it out), then you’d want to use a little less beeswax to make it more creamy and softer.

Homemade Cocoa & Shea Whipped Body Butter

Homemade DIY Whipped Body Butter made with Young Living essential oils

This was my first crack at whipped body butter and whew, what have I been missing. I do see why it is called “butter”. After it sets out, it has a consistency like butter, which is rather weird at first, but super cool and moisturizing.

You will need:

DIY Whipped Body Butter with Essential Oils

Instructions

1. Place coconut oil, cocoa butter, and shea butter in a glass mixing bowl and microwave on high. Keep checking and stir to combine until it melts completely.

2. Thoroughly mix in the sweet almond, vitamin E and essential oil(s). For this batch, I used 6 drops each of Myrhh, Lavender, Frankincense, & Sandalwood. Add more of less depending on your preferences.

3. Chill in your refrigerator for an hour or two. You want the mixture to firm up without getting too hard.

4. Once chilled, use a stand mixer or hand mixer to mix until you get a decadent whipped consistency. Scoop into a jar or container. As long as you are using quality oils this homemade lotion should last for 6 – 12 months at room temperature. If your home is extra toasty it may melt but you can re-chill and whip it up again with no problem.

NOTE: This recipe makes more than what is shown in the little 4oz jar. It makes about 2 cups.

Homemade Chocolate Mint Sugar Scrub

Homemade Chocolate Mint Sugar Scrub made with Young Living essential oils

Move over pricey sugar scrubs! DIY sugar scrubs not only work better, but they are non-toxic and safe! You can even customize the ingredients to your liking. Best of all, you probably already have all the ingredients right there in your own home.

You will need:

Instructions

Mix together the sugar and cocoa powder in a medium bowl.

Add 1/4 cup almond oil (or carrier oil of choice) and mix with the sugar/cocoa mixture. Add more almond oil one tablespoon at a time until your scrub has the desired consistency. Add essential oil and optional Vitamin E oil.

Spoon scrub into a jar with a tight fitting lid. Add decorative label or card including info about how to use the scrub, if desired.

To use: apply to wet skin and gently massage in a circular motion, focusing on rough areas. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry. Avoid use on cuts or delicate areas. Do not exfoliate on sunburned or irritated skin. Do not use directly after shaving skin, wait at least 24 hours after shaving to use scrub. Be careful not to fall on wet or slippery areas caused by using scrub.
