Homemade Peppermint Snowman Playdough

Soft Homemade Playdough scented with essential oils

Move over pricey stinky playdough! I know that the store bought store says "non-toxic", but I don't know what the heck is in there. And the smell turns my stomach. DIY playdough is not only super soft and cheap to make, but is non-toxic and safe (in case you have that kid, like me, who eats everything). You can even customize the scent to your liking. Best of all, you probably already have all the ingredients right there in your own home.

You will need:

Soft Homemade Playdough Scented with Essential Oils

  • 1 cup of flour (Amazon link)
  • 1/3 cup of salt (Amazon link )
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar (Amazon link )
  • 1 Tbsp coconut oil {Amazon link}
  • 4-8 drops Young Living Peppermint essential oil (or scent of choice)
  • 1 cup water
  • Pint size wide mouth jar {Amazon link}
  • Felt, ribbon or material for scarf
  • Sharpie marker, cut vinyl, buttons, etc for snowman buttons
  • Snowman cookie cutter (optional){Amazon link}

Instructions

Combine all ingredients in a sauce pan and stir. Heat over med-high heat until the playdough thickens up a bit. This should just take a few minutes. Take off of stove and let cool. Knead in your essential oil.

This recipe will make enough to fill a 16oz jar. To decorate your jar, use a sharpie marker, some cut felt or even buttons for the snowman buttons. Then tie or glue some felt, ribbon or material around the lid for his scarf. Super fun and easy to make. Great for all the kiddos on your list. You can also add a cute cookie cutter for them to play with the dough.

Homemade Lavender Lotion Bars

DIY Home Lavender Lotion Bars made with Young Living Lavender essential oil

Lotion bars are great for applying lotion without the mess. You can carry them around in a tin, container or bag (great for airplane travel). Lotion bars are solid at room temperature, but when rubbed on the skin or held in your hand, the heat from your body will melt the lotion onto your skin - similar to applying lip balm to your lips. You can make fun shapes and different sizes.

You will need:

  • 1/2 cup Sweet Almond Oil {Amazon link}
  • 1/2 cup Unrefined Ivory Shea Butter {Amazon link}
  • 1/2 cup organic white beeswax pellets {Amazon link}
  • 6-8 drops vitamin E oil - optional {Amazon link}
  • 20 drops Young Living Lavender essential oil
  • Silicone 24-Cavity Daisy Pan {Amazon link} or mold of choice
  • Double Boiler or saucepan {Amazon link}

Instructions

In a saucepan or a double boiler, heat the shea butter, beeswax, almond oil and vitamin E oil (optional) on low to low-medium until all the items are melted. Stir constantly as they melt. Once everything is melted, remove from heat and add your essential oil and stir. You can play around with the recipe and find how many drops work for you. If you don't want almond oil, you can use any carrier oil you'd like such as grapeseed {Amazon link}, fractionated coconut oil {Amazon link}, jojoba {Amazon link}, etc. Or you can mix a few different carrier oils together to equal 1/2 cup of oil.

Fill your mold cavities with the liquid. This recipe will make about 14 lotion bars with a little left over if using the Wilton Daisy Pan {Amazon link}. If you don't have any silicone molds available, you can use silicone cupcake baking cups {Amazon link}.

Let the lotion bars cool for a few hours and then pop each one out of the mold. Package them in little bags or tins. Perfect for friends, gifts, party favors, giveaways, etc.

Chocolate Mint Sugar Lip Scrub

Homemade Chocolate Mint Sugar Scrub made with Young Living essential oils

It's that time of year again - for dry cracked lips! DIY sugar scrubs are the way to go. You can even customize the ingredients to your liking. Best of all, you probably already have all the ingredients right there in your own home. Rub some of the homemade lip scrub onto your lips to exfoliate your lips, leaving them soft and free of dry flakes. Rub off with a towel or wash off with water. Follow up with some homemade cocoa-mint lip balm.

You will need:

  • 1 ounce sugar
  • 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon cocoa powder {Amazon link}
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey (Texas) {Amazon link}
  • 1 tablespoon grapeseed oil {Amazon link} or carrier oil of choice such as sweet almond oil {Amazon link}
  • 1-2 drops Vitamin E oil - optional {Amazon link}
  • 2 drops Young Living Peppermint essential oil
  • 1 oz jar (glass or plastic is fine) {Amazon link}

Instructions

1. Mix together the sugar and cocoa powder in a small bowl.

2. Add honey, grapeseed oil (or carrier oil of choice), Vitamin E and 2 drops of peppermint essential oil and mix with the sugar/cocoa.

3. Spoon scrub into a jar with a tight fitting lid. Add decorative label or card including info about how to use the scrub, if desired.

To use: gently massage sugar scrub onto wet lips. Wipe off with a towel and rinse thoroughly.

This chocolate mint sugar lip scrub pairs nicely with my Cocolate mint sugar body scrub.
